Design Museum reopened to the public on Monday 1 June 2020. These frequently asked questions provide information for visitors on visiting the Museum safely during the summer:
How many visitors does Design Museum accept at the same time?
We accept a maximum of 250 visitors at each time to make it safe for everyone to move about on our premises and keep a safe distance of 1–2 meters.
Will Design Museum be open as usual?
Design Museum is open for visitors as usual. The summer time (1 June-30 Aug 2020) opening hours are 11–18 daily.
Are Design Museum’s other facilities open as usual? (Design Museum Arabia, Design Museum Nuutajärvi and Design Museum Iittala)?
Design Museum’s other facilities (Design Museum Arabia, Design Museum Iittala and Design Museum Nuutajärvi) will also reopen in June and follow the same safety guidelines as Design Museum on Korkeavuorenkatu. Details on the opening hours of Design Museum Arabia are available on the websites of Iittala & Arabia Design Centre, Design Museum Iittala and Design Museum Nuutajärvi.
Will there be guided tours at Design Museum this summer?
No guided tours for the general public will be organized until 31 August. However, private guided tours for groups of a maximum of 10 people can be booked from 1 June.
Will Design Museum organize events for the public?
No guided tours for the public, workshops or events will be organized from June to August. Information will be provided separately on September events. During the summer season, the museum will provide online content, including guided tours of exhibitions, 3D tours and Design workshops for families workshop guidelines. Will the café be open at Design Museum?
Taito Café at Design Museum will be open as usual from 1 June when the museum is open.
Will Design Shop be open at Design Museum?
Design Shop will be open as usual from 1 June when the museum is open. The shop also provides customer service online.
How can I ensure my personal safety during the museum visit?
Good hand hygiene and keeping a safe distance in the museum will ensure safety for you and others.
How do visitors move about in Design Museum?
The guidelines for each floor, available for visitors at the ticket counter, indicate the safe direction of movement in the museum.
Should I wear a face mask during my visit?
The use of face masks is voluntary.
Can I pay in cash at Design Museum?
Cash payments can be made at Design Museum, but we strongly recommend card payments.
How is overall hygiene observed at Design Museum?
During the summer, special attention will be paid to cleaning at Design Museum. We comply with the cleaning instructions provided by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health. We have upgraded cleaning considerably.
Are digital devices in use on the premises open for visitors?
The museum’s digital devices will not be available for visitors’ use during the summer.
Is the Studio in use?
The Studio is not available for the public during the summer.
Are Design Museum’s research services available during the summer?
Researchers may visit Design Museum. Visiting times can be booked through Susanna Thiel, Curator, research services, objects collection susanna.thiel@designmuseum.fi.
Which exhibitions are open at Design Museum?
New exhibitions are open at Design Museum: Travel as a Tool – Nordic Designers on the Road and Other Words. The collections exhibition Utopia Now – The Story of Finnish Design is open on the first floor of the Museum.
