A new joint exhibition between Architecture Museum and Design Museum is opening in spring 2024. The theme of the exhibition is care, repair and maintenance. The museums are now looking to add three curational submissions to the exhibition. Apply by 21.5.
Texts, series of videos, participatory works, research based on the museums’ respective collections, documentation, performances and other ensembles act as examples of viable submissions. The submissions’ theme can revolve around repair, cleaning, wear and tear, darning or examining museums as a place of care. We’re open to various approaches.
Who can apply?
An applicant can have a background in research, arts, activism, curating, design, or architecture. Collectives and working groups are welcomed to apply as well. An applicant doesn’t need to have previous experience of creating exhibitions. Selected experts receive curatorial and productional support from the museum based on their needs. Submissions that bring new or forgotten perspectives to examining architecture and design will be emphasised in the selection process.
Practical information regarding applications
The selected expert is expected to work on their submission on a part-time basis from the beginning of June until the end of October 2023. It’s also expected that they participate in at least four meetings with the museums’ exhibition teams. A reward of 5 000 € is paid per selected submission, plus VAT and non-wage labour costs. The reward can be either billed or redeemed with an income-tax card. The reward is paid in two instalments. An additional 5000 €, including VAT, can also be granted for production purposes and other expenses. The selected submissions will be placed in the Architecture Museum’s or Design Museum’s exhibition spaces at Kasarmikatu or Korkeavuorenkatu. You can get acquainted with the exhibition spaces during our opening hours, which you can check at www.mfa.fi and www.designmuseum.fi.
