    The Design Museum will throw open its doors for a day of family friendly activities on Saturday 10 December. The Design Museum Family Day includes workshops, guided tours and more. Free entry for the whole day!

    12 noon Magic show / Magician Heikki Harha

    13 pm WORLD COMICS / lecture in Finnish

    14 pm – 16 pm Cinnamon Bread workshop

    12 noon -15 pm A live cartooning event with drawing and projection of visiting artists’ work. Visiting artist Janne Toriseva

    Free tours: In English at 3 pm. In Finnish at 2 pm and 4 pm.  In Swedish at 1 pm.

    3 pm Simo Heikkilä’s tour to Kaj Franck Prize exhibition in Finnish

    Open Doors weekend Programme at Design Museum features interesting discussions, workshops, and public guided tours in DesignWorld exhibition. DesignWorld exhibits global contemporary design in a multifaceted and open-minded way. Free entry to Design Museum on 4th of February!

    Programme:

    Friday 3.2.

    11 am to 2 pm

    Student Group from Kruunuhaka School  working in Design studio in Happy Busses and Trams-project producing seat covers for public transportartion vehicles. Feel free pop in!

    Saturaday 4.2.

    noon 12 to 4 pm

    Happy Busses and Trams- nonstop workshops in museum’s auditorium and studio spaces.

    Stitch up a tram or bus seat cover with others. Learn to make ryijy rug knots. Make a brooch with crochet stitches. Make symbols with plywood. Take part in an installation work with a message that will be on display in the museum on Sunday.

    Guided tour in English in Designworld exhibition

    On Saturday between 12 noon and 4 pm there is a process workshop in collaboration with Aalto university’s students of Design Exploration and Exploration course.

    Lecture / 365 Wellbeing

    Topical themes in the exhibition Designworld are explored in discussions and lectures. Aalto University’s Smoke Free Environments is presented on 27 March 18:00.  This project deals with  a highly complex issue, smoking, in the public and social areas. Smoke Free Environments is done in collaboration with Socca (Centre of Excellence on Social Welfare) and the four municipalities in the Helsinki metropolitan area; Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, and Kauniainen.  The project is presented by Profesor Alastair Fuad-Luke & Researcher Tjhien Liao (in english). No pre-booking. Museum entrance fee.

    Lecture / Design Exploration and Experimentation

    Design Exploration and Experimentation is an intensive, 8-week course, offered to MA students at Aalto ARTS. Instead of completing a pre-defined design task the course focuses on supporting the student’s open-ended, creative process and free expression around a given theme. As a part of Aalto’s WDC project 365 wellbeing, the course was this year organized with the theme family in collaboration with the city of Espoo. Results of the project are part of Designmuseum´s exhibition Designworld – Designing the New World. The project is presented by project leaders Maarit Mäkelä and Krista Kosonen (in english). No pre-booking. Museum entrance fee.

    Pavilion opening weekend! Programme at Design Museum: Jewellery Design Workshop for all ages, Saturday 12 May, 1 – 3 p.m. Hands-on workshop to learn how to design and make your own unique jewellery design. With designer Sanna Nuutinen on hand to assist use a range of exciting materials to adorn your own piece of jewellery. On Mother’s Day Sunday 13 May you get two tickets for the price of one. Welcome!
